What Causes Cough With Yellow Mucus And Crackling Breath Sounds?

Recently I have been coughing a lot, this is accompanied with a slight breathing issue where if I breath in or out it makes a rumbling or crackling sound in my throat and I cough even more. It has gotten worse lately and has lad to me coughing so much that I feel like I will throw up. If this is relevant when I cough some of the liquid up it sometimes has a more dense yellowish-green part to it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If this coughing is recent onset and you do not have a history of persistent coughing then it is likely due to an acute infection.
Since the cough is productive , using a mucolytic to help break up the mucus may help.
Eg bisolvan, mucomyst, guaifenesin.

If you have history of persistent coughing then you may have to be assessed for one of the causes of chronic cough: (1)post nasal drip, (2)asthma (3)reflux

I hope this helps
