Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with a ear infection today. My physician prescribed Amoxi (Apo-Amoxi 500mg. I took one dose at 5:30 pm. I started coughing and could not get my breath. I am afraid to take the next prescribed dose in 8 hrs. I take Benadryl for existing alergies to house dust, animal dander, several different grasses and trees. Could this coughing have been caused by a drug interation? Should I discontinue taking it until I can contact my doctor? Any suggestions? Thanks. I am a 76 yr. old female, healthy; no heart disease or other diseases.
Hi, Apo-amoxi is an antibiotic used to treat infection. Your physician has prescribed rightly. You might be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, first symptom being exposed in the form of ear infection. But it might have now started spreading to lower respiratory tract and hence you have manifested with cough. It is not due to taking Amoxi. What you can do is add a decongestant and mucolytic in the form syrup (Ambroxyl) and a tablet which treats allergic symptoms (Levocetrizine) to your course of prescribed antibiotics. Surely you will start feeling better within a day or two.
