What Causes Coughing And Ammonia Smell In Nose?

I have a cough and an ammonia smell in my nose how do I rule out sinus infection? I also have overactive liver enzymes from drinking but I slowed down and I m only 21. I don t think it s kidney failure I think it might be ammonia splitting bacteria but it could be something else I guess. I also get a cough with this ammonia smell.

Hi,

I cannot say in your particular case and ammonia smell is often in the context of liver or kidney failure. This is a very serious situation. Sinus infection, oddly enough, is probably best evaluated with the simplest method--looking for drainage at the back of the throat.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
