A few days later I was coughing up blood and viscous flem. I read that some hotels have air born (bacteria?) in their ventilation systems and that is what got in my lung. Do you know what I got?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Blood and phlegm can be because of pneumonia caused by airborne infections but there are other causes like bronchiectasis, lung cancer, tuberculosis etc. I would like to know your age and if there is any accompanied difficulty in breathing or any other sign. I would recommend you to visit a pulmonologist and get x-ray chest done to know the cause.

I hope this was helpful. Do let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,
Dr. Akash Kumar
