Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went on a family vacation years ago and staid in a hotel with my family for a week. I remember waking up in the middle of the night with a sensation in my chest (lung). A few days later I was coughing up blood and viscous flem. I read that some hotels have air born (bacteria?) in their ventilation systems and that is what got in my lung. Do you know what I got?
Blood and phlegm can be because of pneumonia caused by airborne infections but there are other causes like bronchiectasis, lung cancer, tuberculosis etc. I would like to know your age and if there is any accompanied difficulty in breathing or any other sign. I would recommend you to visit a pulmonologist and get x-ray chest done to know the cause.
I hope this was helpful. Do let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards, Dr. Akash Kumar
