Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Coughing Up Of Blood, Weakness And Reduced Physical Movement?
my friend is 69, he smokes and a few weeks ago he had flu like symptoms and refuses to go to the doctor. Now he is coughing up blood and thick bloody tissues, won t eat and has fallen several times. For the past 4 to 6 months he has stopped getting any physical movement except from his bed to the couch and has no hygiene care at all. I am afraid he has given up, when I called 911 because of his fall, they told him he needed medical attention but he refused so they wouldn t take him. ? what should O do
Coughing up blood is not a symptom that can be taken lightly. Conditions where it occurs are bronchiectasis, bronchitis, tuberculosis, fungal infection of the lungs, arteriovenous malformations, broncho-vascular fistula, primary lung cancer, trauma, interstitial fibrosis, foreign body, congestive heart failure or pulmonary artery hypertension.
I know the list is exhaustive but the condition needs immediate medical attention. Lack of physical movement in old age can cause deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. They are very dangerous. Hence, he has to be active and let himself get examined by the physician. Please talk to him and persuade him.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
