What Causes Coughing Up Of Phlegm And Chest Discomfort?

I m coughing up thick mucus with discomfort in my chest. No fever. This has been going on for about five days now. Should I go see my doctor? I started having bronchitis about two years ago. Or can I just use cough syrup that was prescribed last year. I still have some.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the symptoms of productive cough, it is likely that you may have repeat bronchitis.

This can be viral or bacterial. If the cough syrup that you have was prescribed for you and is useful for bronchitis , then you can use it.
Bronchitis would benefit from a mucolytic (medication to break up the mucus) and medication to open the airways.

If there is no improvement then you can see your doctor for an assessment and additional treatment.

I hope this helps
