What Causes Cracked Tongue, Sore And Swollen Taste Buds With Pain?
I have been on Bactrim for a skin abscess and developed a cracked tongue and sore swollen taste buds. My Dr switched me to doxycycline sine she thought the mouth problems were a reaction to the Bactrim but I have been off the Bactrim for over a week and the sity with my tongue continues. I have used warm salt water gargle and costing my tongue with yogert but it is still very painful . Any way to find out what is causing the situation?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of cracked tongue, sore and swollen taste buds with pain which is due to adverse reaction to Bactrim as it is one of the most common adverse effect with Bactrim. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Take benadryl twice a day and avoid hot and spicy food.
If condition doesn't get better in few days then consult oral pathologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory medications. You should go for alternative course of medication.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
