Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Cracking Sound At The Back While Bending?
I am 58 yo, was bent over tying my shoelaces and on way way to sit back up I hear a pop. Ihave pain to the touch certain sitting or laying positions and breathing in between my ribs at the bottom of my rib cage on the left side and closer to my back than my sternum. What is it?
The following may be few probable causes of pain in the rib area closer to your back: 1) Costochondritis 2) Muscle sprains 3) Pleurodynia or pain due to inflammation of lung lining called pleura 4) Polychondritis 5) Fibromyalgia 6) Herpes zoster 7) Blunt abdominal trauma 8) Spleenomegaly
Treatment depends upon the cause. You require a detailed clinical examination and few tests like chest X-ray, ultrasound imaging of abdomen and pelvis, complete blood picture, ESR, and CRP. Until you consult a physician you can use pain medicines like opioids hydrocodoneoxycodone and Tramadol and over the counter NSAIDs like Ibuprofen.
To prevent gastric irritation caused due to the above medication, you are advised to take tab. Pantop 40 mg once daily before food.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
