What Causes Cracking Sound From The Ankles?

I hear a cracking sound in my 13 yo son s right ankle when he walks (sometimes) or walks up stairs. He does not feel any pain in it all. He plays baseball and basketball. Has only heard it he says the last 6-12 months. I just noticed hearing it w/in last month.

I understand your concern.
Crackling sound arising out of ankle joint and knee joint can be considered as normal. This is generally is seen in younger age group, which occurs due to movement of synovial fluid across cartilages when the joint is put into action.
Gradually, as age advances, such sound should become less and infrequent.
