What Causes Crackling Sound From Toes While Walking?

I am a 60 year old female and just recently my left big toe started crackling or clicking when I walk - it doesn t do it with every step but definitely when I get up from sitting or relaxing - it sounds like a faint cracking of a knuckle not a loud lower tone like some - BTW, I seem to remember my brother had this if that matters - it doesn t hurt but bugs me and will it ever go away - thanks for your help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I believe that the cracking sounds may be caused by arthritis. Please do an X-ray of the foot which is making the sound.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
