What Causes Cramping In Calf Post Ankle Stabilization Surgery?

I had lateral ankle stabilization surgery 9 days ago and have a below knee bivalve cast. Beginning yesterday, I m experiencing significant calf cramping when I put leg vertical, which is relieved somewhat when elevated. No noticeable swelling in toes or knee area. Is this normal or should I be concerned about clots?
