What Causes Cramping In The Lower Leg Post Knee Replacement Surgery?

I recently had a total knee replacement and I am doing very well except that my lower leg is very cramped most of the day and night. I have been eating bananas, drinking water, and I have been prescribed potassium by my rheumatologist and taking it for 2 years due to low potassium levels, Any suggestions to reduce the cramping. I have had an ultrasound and I do not have a blood clot, Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Knee replacement surgery can lead to impingement and compression of nerve post-surgery.
Thus, a post-operative assessment of surgical site is required and lower limb is required to know the status of nerves of lower limb.
Low potassium level is known to affect muscles and their functions.
Thus, potassium needs to be replenished and wait for the symptoms to disappear.
Thus, replete your potassium stores and observe the symptoms thereafter.
Absence of blood clot in lower limb has been ruled out by ultrasound of lower limb.

Thanks and take care
