What Causes Cramps In The Lower Abdomen?

Hello, I have had acute onset stomach discomfort/cramping for three days. Sudden onset Tuesday evening. Hx of UC but very controlled and no stomach cramps in the past. Overall health is good, no major dietary changes. Cramps/discomfort intermittent and still able to eat and bowels are ok. Pain localized to mid stomach just below rib cage and somewhat around the back(kidney area). Bloated feeling lower abdomen. Hydrating well. Should I call my GI doc and set up appt or try to let it run its course? Zantac generic not offering any relief.

Hello,

It may be one more flare up episode of ulcerative colitis or acute stomach infection. Other possibilities are food allergies, Irritable bowel syndrome or infection or gluten intolerance.

Avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking, and eat soft diet. Use tablet Oflox ornidazole twice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor, he/she will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
