What Causes Craving For Sugar After Withdrawal From Alcohol?
Hi there. I quit my evening drink (or two or three) and morning soda at the beginning of January when I noticed my concentration tripping and scattering. Almost two months later, my concentration still feels quite off and I crave sugar heavily (I'm aware of the high sugar in alcohol) . My question is if I should avoid all sugar, aside from alcohol and soda and heavy sugared snacks (even orange juice has me going crazy with cravings and lapsed focus) and if this will help me to feel normal again. I feel basically the same now as I did at the start, and that doesn't seem right. Any insight and advice is greatly appreciated.
Most people going off of alcohol do not have sugar cravings, but there are a wide variety of reasons it can occur shared with many other contexts. First, there's the plain underlying personality issues that underlie compulsive intakes. People compulsively drink due to a lot of reasons--these underlie cravings of all sorts. Some people like compulsive oral feelings, others like novelty, others have emotional needs that they meet with various treats (depression, loneliness, boredom). These are still going to be there and will find other outputs. And, other outputs besides sugar or using very small amounts of sugar can also be substitutes.
