What Causes Damage To Intestines And Colon?

MY MOTHER JUST PASSED AND THE DOCTORS SAID THAT HER INTESTINES AND COLON WERE ROTTED. I NEED TO KNOW HOW LONG DOES THIS TAKE TO HAPPEN,AND WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT. I WAS TO UPSET TO UNDERSTAND OR EVEN HERE WHAT THEY HAD SAID.I NEED TO KNOW FOR MY SANITY. THANK YOU.

gastrointestinal disorders,diseases and cancers can be due to genetic factors which are inherited and hence puts the patient at higher risk and due to lifestyle issues like such as
1)
a diet which is high fat ,large intake of red meat,low fibre,improper food habits and timings leading to ulcers etc
2)tobacco and aalcohol consumption
3)chemical exposures
sometimes overusage of laxatives,antidepressants,iron etc can cause such disorders and also local inflammation of the intestine,colon and related organs can also cause such ailments
