Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I stopped using birth control (Nuvaring) at the end of last month. I started having dandruff a few days after my period ( having it off and on for a day or two is not uncommon for me). It hasn t gone away and is getting worse. It s been almost 4 weeks and the itching is so bad. Could this be caused by stopping the birth control?
Birth control pills may lead to hair loss due to sensitivity to hormones in the pills, in women's who takes it. However, based on the hormonal combination in the pills, they makes the skin dry or oily there by inviting dandruff. So, I advice you to use anti-dandruff shampoos.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
