What Causes Dark Brown Spotting Instead Of Periods?

I had my last normal monthly period at the end of May. My periods are usually somewhat abnormal, they usually come around every 35-40 days. So, this is a lot longer than usual. I started spotting dark brown blood, is doesnt get any heavier than just spotting. When my period usually starts, I do not spot for very long before I start my usual flow. I have no tender breasts, no vomiting, no fatigue, etc. If you think a doctor is needed, I will see one. I am curious if this could be my body just dealing with the stress, or if I could be pregnant. Thank You.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

Dark brown spotting can occur as a result of dried blood from previous cycles. This can be normal. But the cause of delay in periods should be identified. Pelvic ultrasound, thyroid function test and complete blood count should be taken to identify the cause of hormonal imbalance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
