What Causes Dark Brown Vaginal Discharge While On Qlaira?
Hi, I ve been on Qlaira since February, (started on the first day of my period then), and ever since then, instead of bleeding, I ve just had a dark brown discharge every month. A month ago, I missed a pill on the 18th day, and in the instructions it said that if I miss that pill, i should instead take the first pill from the next pack. After that, I didn t have my period but only a bit of brown discharge for about 2 days (this happened a few weeks ago). Is this common ?
Dark brown vaginal discharge while on BC pills is commonly due to missed pills, low levels of hormones present in the BC pills, implantation bleeding, sensitiveness to certain pills, old blood, fibroids, etc.
Since you are having brown vaginal bleeding you are suggested to get clinically assessed by a gynae.
If you had unprotected intercourse & miss periods, you should get urine/blood test done to detect pregnancy. You should use condoms/spermicides apart from BC pills to avoid getting pregnant.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
