Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dark Discoloration And Soreness In The Upper Labial Frenulum?
My upper labial frenulum looks way darker than usual, it is a darker red coming from the gums (my gums look fine) and then it gets lighter as it gets closer to the lip. it doesn't really hurt but it is getting sore from pulling my lip up to have a better view of what is going on.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dark discoloration and soreness in the upper labial frenulum which seems to be due to canker sores, any minor injury physically or chemically like acidic and spicy food and due to vitamin B12 deficiency .
I would suggest you to :-
- Do warm saline rinses several times a day.
- Avoid hot and spicy food well as nuts which can cause allergy sometimes. Start taking vitamin B12 for at least 10 days.
- Apply anesthetic gel to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Usually the condition will resolve it self in few days .
If it persist after a week then consult dentist for proper diagnosis and to rule ou condition like mucocele and cold sores. Doctor may do complete examination and prescribe antibiotics , anti inflammatory drugs or may perform minor surgery in case of mucocele .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
