What Causes Dark Discoloration On The Cheek While On Amoxicillin?
Hi Doctor, I have been on Amoxicillin for almost a week following dental surgery. I noticed a dark discoloration on my cheek a day or two after starting the drug. It was not there prior to the surgery. Do you think it could be from the antibiotic? Thanks for your help.
Well, dark discoloration of the cheek is not a common finding after taking Amoxicillin or any dental surgical procedure however it can be due to any reaction to the medicine or anything applied accidentally over the cheek causing burning or discoloration.
So once you should consult your Oral Surgeon and get yourself checked.
In case if there is the side effect of medication then it has to be stopped and you can be advised to apply depigmentation creams like Kojic acid and Azelaic Acid containing ointments.
Scrub your face twice a week to reduce pigmentation. Take Vitamin C candy. Use sunscreen lotion whenever you get out into the sun.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
Dentist
