What Causes Dark Discolouration On Lips Corners In Infants?
Hi my granddaughter is a month old and about 3 days ago her lips corners are starting to turn dark and or black. As of right now her bottom lip is almost black and her upper one is having some pinkish spots and areturning black as well; can you tell what might be the cause of that. Also my daughter is lactating her as well.
Understanding your concern. As per your query dark discolouration on lips corners in infants is mainly due to excessive saliva in mouth and due to deficiency of certain vitamins specially Vitamin B12. It could be due to nipple cracking as well. I would suggest you to apply moisturizing agent on lips of child. Apply coconut oil or soothing agent on nipples. Give Becosules syrup to child on daily basis. Apply apple cedar vinegar with cotton. Visit pediatrician once or dermatologist if symptoms keeps on occurring and start proper treatment. Maintain oral hygiene of infant. Keep applying glycerin to prevent cracking as well.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
