Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dark Green Stools With Yellow Spots In An Infant?
My 4.5 month old son has started having dark army green bowel movements and the most recent ones have had yellow spots in it. It is not a thick consistency a bit runny. We had switched his formula from alimentum to total comfort by Similac. He doesn t appear to have any discomfort. He is also on calcium and vitamin D due to open heart surgery. Should I put him back on the alimentum?
As long as the child is not having any other complaints but is feeding well, is active as usual and he is gaining weight well, and has no blood with the stools there is no need to worry about the color of his stool.
If he has any of the above complaints you will need to have him checked first with your doctor and if all is well in the examination you may consider going back in alimentum.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
