What Causes Dark Patches On Neck, Armpits And Elbows?

My 13yr old son has dark dirty looking patches on the back of his neck, under his armpits and elbows. He bathes well but these patches will not go away. I have checked his blood sugar fasting and 2hrs after eating and it has run normal. Should I have him looked at?
