Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 42year old female who is experiencing dark red to black spots on my stools.Iwas diagnosedwith IBS approx.12 years ago. I had a colonoscopy done Feb.2010. There were no polybs. There were some non bleeding hemoroids found. My doctor thinks that this is where I am getting the spots from. I am also chronically constipated. He recommends more fober and more exercise. Should I get a second opinion or do you think his recommendations are accurate.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You may be suffering from constipation with hemorrhoids, which may cause blood in stools.
Why can't you try high fibre diet and do regular exercise and drink plenty of water before consulting other doctor.
Use metamucil or benefiber for bulk formation of stools.
Use syrup Lactulose. Consult your physician for prescription. Still symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor who will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
