Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dark Spots In The Abdomen Of An Elderly Person?
My mom just had a cat scan and her nurse said they found dark spots they are very concerned about. She has a colonoscopy in 2 weeks. She is 82, somewhat anemic, has abdominal pain on left side occasionally and has bowel issues, constipation etc, more importantly- severe weight loss. Are we talking colon cancer? Very worried. Thx
I'm sorry to hear that your mom is having some health problems. I am not sure what the dark spots they told you are, but the symptoms you describe: anemia, constipation, abdominal pain, and as you said, most importantly weight loss, are all concerns of cancer.
Especially colon cancer. It is hard to say how likely it is, but the colonoscopy should determine whether she has colon cancer or not. If not, with the weight loss I would still be concerned about cancer somewhere else.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
