What Causes Dark Spots On Abdomen Despite Being A Diabetic?
Hi, I am diabetic and I am using insulin pump. Off late I have realised that left side of my under belly part there are dark spots and quite big ones and recently they have started growing more in numbers. I don t have much of belly fat but yes, I am 7 kegs over weights. Pls tell me is it something to worry or not.
Hello. This is Dr. Praveen Jeyapathy and I will be answering your question today.
You need to see if these areas are the same areas where you insert your insulin pumpcannula. If that is the case, then it could be a local reaction that you are experiencing. Also note if there is any loss of fat or increase in fat in those areas in which case it could be fat changes secondary to insulin injection (lipo-hypo/hypertrophy). The other possibility is diabetic dermopathy which is commonly seen in the lower limbs but can happen in any other parts of the body too. The last possibility is conditions like insulin allergy/pyoderma which should be thought of if this area ulcerates. It would be highly useful if a picture of the area can be seen.
Wishing you good health. Please feel free to drop in any more queries if need be. Warm regards, Dr Praveen Jeyapathy (www.diabetesintoto.wordpress.com)
