What Causes Decreased HCG Levels During Pregnancy?

I tested positive for pregnancy. This month I have had light bleeding on the 10th-12th and 17th-18th with light spotting today. Hcg was drawn with a level of 30 and dropped to 16 within 48 hrs. Dr said I likely miscarried but did not schedule any exam. I have passed no tissue. Do I need to request another physician to examine me or do I assume they are correct just basing it on hcg levels?

Hello,
The HCG levels should be doubling every 48 hours if you are having a successful pregnancy. A drop indicates a loss of the pregnancy. Usually the obstetricians follow the HCG until it goes down below 5, but some do not think that this is necessary. If you are concerned then make an appointment and get another level checked
