What Causes Deep Chest Pain On Breathing While Suffering From Asthma?

I have a deep pain in my chest when I take a deep breath. I have asthma but it is under control with meds.I am a little short of breath also. Noticed light symptoms the last few days but today is worse. Could this be pneumonia-no coughing to speak of.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Chest pain on inspiration can be due to: (1) pleuritis (inflammation of the pleura which is the outer lining of the lung),
(2) costochondritis- inflammation of the cartilage between the sternum and ribs
(3)pericarditis- inflammation of the lining around the heart

Pneumonia would normally be associated with a cough and fever in most cases.

It is possible that the use of anti inflammatory pain killers may help but you should first consider assessment by your doctor.
Eg of anti inflammatory pain killers are naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen

I hope this helps
