What Causes Delay In Periods After Having Intercourse?

Hello,I seem to have started spotting around the time I would normally expect my period. Brown at first and very light with some normal, mild cramping. Same day, I had intercourse with my partner and bled a lot, so much that I lost consciousness and experienced shock. I stopped bleeding immediately after, and have not bled since. 5 days has passed since then, and still no period. Cramps have not ceased either. I ve not been feeling right. At this point I am very worried as to why my period did not fully start or continue. Waiting until Monday to call my obgyn, but any help until then would bring me such relief. A baby would not be bad news... other health problems, however, would not be so good. Any help is much appreciated.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that you are pregnant, a pregnancy test would be needed to confirm this.
The tests detect the HCG hormone which is usually detectable by day 11 to 14.

Other causes of delayed period are: (A)emotional stress or illness,
(B)physical illness,
(c)high levels of a hormone called prolactin
(d) abnormal levels of the thyroid hormone
(e)excess exercise or activity
(f)PCOS- polycystic ovarian syndrome

These would mainly be considered if the pregnancy tests is negative and your periods continue to be irregular.
Diagnosed with blood tests and ultrasound.

I hope this helps
