What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Having Negative UPT?
A week after sex i had a perfectly normal period. I typically have heavy periods so it was quite normal in amount and length. BUT I have irregular periods and I always have, but this time i m 3 months late which hasnt happened before. As expected i was a bit worried so recently i took a couple of pregnancy tests which were all negative. Is there a chance im pregnant anyways? Also i was blood tested for PCOS and i didnt have it though some of my family has it. No pregnancy symptoms. I d just love to know what is wrong
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Delay in periods for about 3 months needs to be evaluated. It could be due to secondary amenorrhea, which could be due to hormonal imbalance or polycystic ovarian disease or thyroid dysfunction. Blood picture will not reflect about the condition you might be having called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Kindly get the following tests done: 1. Blood for FSH, LH and Prolactin levels. 2. Thyroid profile by knowing the levels of Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. 3. Ultrasound scan of abdomen to know about the status of ovaries and uterus. Kindly consult Gynecologist with report for appropriate evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
