What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Taking Postpone-72 After Having Sex?

Hi doctor, my gf regular date period is 7th or 8th evarymonth and that will last for max 5days, last month she got periods on 8th Auguest, and we have unprotected S** on 13th auguest, I am 99%sure that I pull-out before ejaculation on 13th, the very next day we again had protected s** by using condom, for safety purpose she also took postpone 72 after half an hr on that day itself(14th). She got withdrawl bleed on 19th auguest to 21st auguest. While reading posts in this site I have come to know that, her next period will be calculated from withdrawl date(19th auguest), If I calculate like that she must got period on 17th or 18 th of september or atleast 20th. but today 20th september,till now there is perods and not even a any sign, we are confused, tensed and worried about weather it is pregnancy , please doctor help us to get out of this tension

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. As she did take emergency contraceptive pill it will give protection against unwanted pregnancy for 72 hours, so no need to worry.

2. As she did get the withdrawal bleeding [which also exclude pregnancy] thus the next cycle will be irregular due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress.
PS. do check with other pathologies like PCOD,being over weight, high prolactin level, pelvic infection, irregular diet, thyroid disturbance etc which can also cause irregular period.

3. Kindly consult with your gynecologist who might ask for ultrasound along with above mentioned investigations to rule out any underlying cause of irregular period.
PS. check with UPT [urine pregnancy test] 2 weeks after last intercourse and repeat the test after 1 week to rule out pregnancy.
