What Causes Delay In Periods In Spite Of Taking Duphaston?
Hello doctor. I had my last period exactly 2 months back. Recently I was diagnosed with PCOs. My gyne put me in Duphaston for 5 days (twice a day) to regularize my period and then advised me to go on birth control pills for 3 cycle and also prescribed another medicine to help me conceive. However it has been 10 days and Duphaston had no effect on my periods. But I noticed some spotting today (dark brown). Initially I thought my period started but later realized I just bled a few drops the entire day. I m also getting cramps in my lower abdomen. It needs to be mentioned that I did a pregnancy test at home before starting Duphaston. Kindly advise.
The Duphaston contains Dydrogesterone which contains synthetic progesterone and used in various disorders of gynecology problems including that of PCOS. However, as there is no menses since 10 days of therapy, I would recommend to consult your OBGYN to take another round of therapy (in my clinic, I prefer combined OC pills intake for 3 days on twice a day basis and then stop which reveals menses after 7 days period) to set the rhythm. It is the primary event to induce menses, later on management of regularisation of the same and last comes the conceiving therapy as you are not going to be pregnant when on regulating hormone therapy of PCOS.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
