my grandson just turned 1 year old in December. He takes steps but does not really walk. My concern is that he does not talk, not a syllable, although my daughter said that he said dada a while back.He is normal in everything else. plays enjoys TV CHILDREN S shows, eats well, laughs, sleeps well, The fact he does not even say mama is troubling me. he shows mild anger, makes loud noises, like screams a little, throws things away, toys bottle, grabs everything puts it in mouth.Thank you for your help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I understand your concern.

Children can take their time talking or expressing. I understand that mama is usually the first word that a child says but it's OK if he doesn't.
As long as he is normal in every thing else.
I suggest that you try conversing with him and use the same words everytime to represent the subjects that you talk about.
For instance say 'mamma' all the time and not 'ma' or 'mummy' or 'mother'. Try to have older kids /siblings talk to him. Make sure he pays attention when you talk to him. If you are still concerned when he is 2,please talk to his pediatrician to judge for any medical issues.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Wish you all good health.
