Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I am 19 years old and my period is a week late. I ve had this clear discharge for the past two days along with cramps and feelings like I m about to have my period, but they don t happen the next day. Today, during work, I ve experienced such sickening nausea that I haven t felt in a long time. I am sexual active, but I took 2 pregnancy tests and they both came out to negative. I do not know what is causing my period delay. I did have several UTI infections during the time period from now since my last period and I haven t had a yeast infection for so long. I also took Plan B yesterday because the condom got stuck inside my vagina after my boyfriend ejaculated. I just want to know why my period may be delayed. Maybe an idea of what may be causing it. Thank you! Erika
You have negative pregnancy test results but have delayed periods. You had UTI infection several times. UTI will not delay periods. Presently you are nauseous. Taking medicines for UTI can affect the efficacy of the contraceptive pills you had been taking. Other factors that can delay periods are stressful lifestyle, poor general health condition, anemia, thyroid issues, polycystic ovary syndrome, pregnancy / ectopic pregnancy, etc.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist. Get all routine tests, investigations and imaging tests done to rule out possibility of pregnancy / ectopic pregnancy. If you are pregnant you will be managed and if you are not, other pathology affecting your periods will be studied and detected. You will be accordingly treated. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
