What Causes Delayed Periods Along With Abdominal Cramps And Mood Swings?

I have been on the depo shot for about 4 years now. Since I have started I have always gotten my period a week or so before hand. I m due for my new shot in 3 days and I have not gotten my period. I have had some severe cramps and more severe mood swings if that s what I d even call them. The previous time I bled for a entire month before I got my shot. Being that I always get my period before my shot it s very concerning that I haven t gotten it this time. I just want to know if something could be wrong and if so what it could be. I have also taken two pregnancy tests and both were negative.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Although it is rare to get pregnant on contraceptive methods. You need to do pregnancy tests after the expected date for your period. If it's negative, you have to repeat the test after 3 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
