What Causes Delayed Periods And Spotting?

Hi, I would rather not disclose any personal info. I have not had a period since my the end of December to the beginning of January. I am rarely sexually active and had sex January 4th (with condom, and pulling out before ejaculation). I ve experienced spotting twice. I am a high endurance swimmer, I ve lost about 5 pounds, and have been under a lot of stress. I have never had much of a regular period. I just need advice/answers

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Delay in periods can occur due to hormonal imbalance, stress, anemia etc.
As you have mentioned that you are under stress, this could be a reason of delayed periods.
Hormonal imbalance can also cause delay in periods.
You need to consult your gynaecologist for clinical assessment and investigations- assessment of hormone levels.
In case there is hormonal imbalance, hormones need to be prescribed to resume the menstruation.

Thanks and take care

General & Family Physician Dr. Heera Lal Poonia's  Response
Dear thanks for the question.

I share your concerns. As a treating physician I always advise my patients to do pregnancy test by urine stick method in case of missed or delayed period. You had used protection while having sex but still you should do this, its a very reliable and easy method (do with morning sample). Depending on the test result you can plan next course of action.

I hope I have clarified your query. Wish you good health. I would welcome follow up questions if any, if not please rate my reply. Thank you.
