Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Regesterone is a synthetic form of the hormone
progesterone, which is normally produced during the latter half of your menstrual cycle. Stopping the progesterone causes a drop in the hormone levels, which will normally produce a menstrual period.
In your case however, a dose of 5 mg for only 3 days may not be an adequate amount of progesterone to produce a menstrual cycle. Normally in my practice, I prescribe 10 mg of progesterone to be taken for 7 days and stopped to produce a menstrual cycle.
I think that your doctor did not prescribe an adequate amount of progesterone to produce your menstrual period, and that there is nothing wrong with your hormone levels and you do not need to fear
pregnancy.
So in summary, I recommend that the
dosing of your progesterone be changed to 10 mg for 7 days. After you complete that medicine, you should have a menstrual cycle within 3 to 7 days.
If you do not bleed after 7 days on progesterone, it may mean that your body is not producing enough
estrogen. In that case, your doctor should check the levels of your hormones by blood tests to determine exactly what the cause is of your delayed menstrual cycle.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
