Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM,

Breastfeeding might delay the periods in a woman but if you once had your periods it is expected to continue to have them regularly. Negative pregnancy test is encouraging in your case but still it does not rule out the possibility of pregnancy unless they are done repeatedly every 3-4 days for 1-2 weeks.
1. I would recommend you to repeat your pregnancy test every 3-4 days for the next 1-2 weeks or till you have the next period.
2. Meanwhile make sure you are using folic acid 400 mcg- it is still a small chance you are pregnant and in this case you will need folic acid if you want this pregnancy to continue healthy.
3. You need to consider pregnancy prevention even if you are breastfeeding- this means that you are still at risk of getting pregnant even if you are breastfeeding. So at the moment till you are sure you are not pregnant I would recommend you regular use of condoms and if your periods come back and are regular consider oral contraception with progesteron only- these do not reduce breast milk amount. Speak with your doctor on the risks and if you can take them or not.

Hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you

Best regards,
