i have been on metformin for a year, 500mg tablets twice a day and recently was changed to two 500mg tablets (extended release) once a day. My menstrual cycle is regular. It has been over a week that my period was due. I have taken 3 pregnancy tests and they have all been negative, last test taken this morning.

Hello,

The doctor may prescribe metformin, an insulin-lowering oral drug for type 2 diabetes, which can help ensure ovulation and regular periods.Metformin can enhance ovulation and regulate menstrual cycles.

This means if you are sexually active, you should use birth control to prevent pregnancy, even if you haven't been getting your period regularly. Metformin may even improve cholesterol and hirsutism symptoms like acne and excess hair growth
