Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had the flu for five days. I have been really tired and i have not eaten a lot. Although i am feeling a bit better, I still feel really tired and i feel like crying. Could it be that I am so tired because of fighting the flu that I feel depressed? I used to have panic attacks and when the flu started i thought i was having one of them...
During flue your body suffers as a whole. Due to pain and aches over body mind also not rest in peace.Overall metabolism of body suffers. This feeling is called malaise( due to pain and tiredness person feels depressed.) Depression is the illness in which low/sad mood should be persistent most of the time of the day for at least 2 weeks. With that lack of interest in pleasurable and routine activities, sleep disturbance, decrease appetite, worthlessness, hopelessness should be present. Sometime death wishes with suicadal ideas and excessive fatigue present.
o in your case it is not depression as a disorder but only some of depression like symptoms. You will recover on its own as your body will get on the track of regular metabolism.
Hope I have answered your query. Regards, Dr.Chintan Solanki.
