What Causes Depression Post Pain Medicine Withdrawal?
My regular physician for over ten years...kept prescribing me pain medication...I was on them 200 a month for the past 5 years....then went to percocet after october 6....I quit cold turkey for about 3 days now...I feel so down and depressed...I recently quit seeing my dr cause he is the one who caused this...I tried to get off them over a year ago and he told me not to stop taking them without his concent....how long do the withdrawls last....mostly muscle aches and pains...
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Percocet is Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone and is an opioid analgesic drug. The drug is known to cause dependence and tolerance if used regularly. You are taking high doses of the drug regularly and abrupt stoppage of its doses has resulted in withdrawal. The symptoms like feeling down, depressed are occurring due to its withdrawal only. The symptoms of withdrawal can persist even for long durations of the time. The muscle aches, pains respond to drugs like Pregabalin or Gabapentin. Both these drugs help to reduce craving and help in reducing the pain. Analgesics like Diclofenac, Chlorzoxazone etc can help to reduce the severe muscle aches. Please consult a doctor for proper management of withdrawal symptoms.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.
