What Causes Diabetes Along With Postural Hypotension?

Hi, i developed type 2 diabetes around 30ish yrs of age. The neuropathic damage started in my toes then feet but has not travelled any further. My sugars are all over the place despite resonable control but i m no saint! Diabetes actually makes you crave sugary foods and drink more. My blood pressure ranges from normal (130/80) or even (165/55)so havebn diagnosed with neuropathic posteral hypotension. Sometimes it has dropped from 80 toeven 15! Now it s classified as severe. At night i get up at least 4/5 per night to urinate. The ergency is beyond a joke... Last night my BSL was 28-2 after soup, 2slices bread and water so i took 23 units of novarapid but this morning my reading was 11. Wants going on? Could this actually be APBD instead? Kindly Jennifer.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

Neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes especially in long-standing disease (though you don't state your current age to judge about that).

Among different types of neuropathy, there can be impairment of autonomic nervous system which may cause postural hypotension.

So hypotension is well justified by diabetes. Regarding blood glucose values and treatment it's hard to judge with only two readings, more information regarding treatment regimen and glucose level readings are needed.

As for the possibility of APBD, it is a condition which has other symptoms apart from the neurologic bladder, including spasticity so doctors should be able to exclude it through clinical exam from diabetic neuropathy, it is unlikely to be the cause.

The frequent urination should be investigated for urinary infection or medication side effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
