Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had an intestinal resection and have a colostomy and later had my gallbladder removed. When I had my gallbladder removed I began having diarrhea (it s been 5 years now). I have used the Cholestyramine powder and it has help a little. I still have to plan my life around my diarrhea problems. This week my doctor prescribed Diphenoxylate/Atropine 2. 5 (1 daily). Today was the second day I have taken it. Both days every time I eat, I immediately have diarrhea. Is this one of the side effects of this new medicine?
In my opinion, you should continue with Diphenoxylate or Atropine. These are effective drugs. Try to follow it for one week. Additionally, try out a high fiber diet. Ensure that you are hydrated enough, so as to make sure you aren't losing too much liquid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
