Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Diarrhea After Eating Long After Gall Bladder Removal?
I had my gallbladder removed about 10 yrs ago. I suffer from almost immediate diahrreah when I eat a meal that contains fats. Is there something I can take to try to eliminate this. Its embarrasing to eat out with friends and have to be in the restroom before we can leave.
The gall bladder is useful is digesting fats. When the body still has fats present, it is possible that this can cause increase pressure on the stool.
Also, when there is more fat in the stool, there is a chance that bacteria in the intestine will act on the increased fat in the intestine. This can cause diarrhea in some people.
Usually, a doctor would be able to suggest the next treatment and to suggest medicines to help digest the fat in the body. This can prevent the bacteria from acting on the stool and reduce the diarrhea. Avoiding fatty foods, and eating good and hygienic food can also help.
I hope this helps. Please reach out anytime you have any questions.
