Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello I am a white male 43. started getting diarrhea after eating lunch. mostly water though and remnants from past meals. it would happen after eating all sorts of foods. comes and goes. a week will go by and then it will happen again. sometimes it will happen for a day, sometimes a few consecutive days. no bleeding. no stomach cramps but I do notice that my stomach will tremor/spasm (mostly on the lower left side) occasionally. I am not losing any weight. play hockey and work out 4 x a week. pretty healthy. I stopped drinking alcohol. used to be a heavy smoker and drinker in my 20 s and 30 s.
Chronic diarrhea (lasting for a long period of time) can be due to different possible causes.
The most common causes are--(1)infection- a stool sample sent to the lab would determine if this is the case (2)inflammatory bowel disease eg crohns disease, ulcerative colitis (3)side effect of medication (4)food intolerance or allergies- a food diary looking at any foods and drinks used and , if possible, their ingredients, would be helpful (5)thyroid disease (6)diabetes- uncontrolled diabetes can affect the nerve function in the gut (7)irritable bowel syndrome
If it continues, you would need to be assessed by your doctor to determine the cause so that appropriate treatment can be given
I hope this helps
