Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had diaherra for three weeks. My stomach seems gassy as well, and hurts at times. I started, the brat today and took Imodium D. Should I need to do anything else. Do I need to see a physician. I am living on a sail boat and drink water from different marina in the Central and S Florida. We do have a good filtering system and have been living on the boat for two years. It is not affecting my husband.
You seem to be suffering from an intestinal infection. They are generally self limiting and require minimal treatment and household measures. It's persistent for 3 weeks therefore I would suggest you to take a course of antibiotic like cipro TZ. Imodium just decreases the intestinal motility without actually clearing any infection hence suited for short term treatment of mild cases only.
You should wash your hands properly before handling food and clip your nails. Boiled water for drinking is preferable for few days, and go for cooked food. You can go for blood test and stool test if the symptoms persists or if there is fever.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Manisha Roy
