What Causes Diarrhea And Appetite Loss In A Child?

my child is 9 years old, she s been complaining of a upset stomach for 3 weeks. She s had diarrhea and her appetite is off and on. I ve been taking her into our pediatrician a few times. Most recently, they took a stool sample and a blood test. The stool sample came out ok but the blood test came back with low white blood counts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Kindly mention about the previous visit whether your child has given any antibiotic or not. The antibiotic course can be prescribed as the total count. Stool culture should be done before giving antibiotic to rule out the infective cause.

Maintain hydration with lots of water. Zinc sulphate powder can be prescribed.Avoid excess spicy foods

Consult gastroenterologist for examination if needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
