Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
It s evident that my sister s father- in law have a bit of dementia. He went missing for two days and was hospitalized for at least 2 weeks. Upon his release and in a new state, he s been admitted for having diarrhea and blood in his stool. I believe he s in his 80 s. Tests are being ran to see the cause. I was just wondering what you think. I know it could be a number of things, colon cancer, rectal cancer, crohn s disease, procitis, colits. just curious.
At first in this case is a great recommendation to hospitalized because you need to make some examinations like colonoscopi to exclude the diseases like colon cancer or morbus crohn, or ulcerativ colitis as mentioned above, and culture of stool to see for shigellosis infection. Consultation with an enterologist and infectious disease specialist to find more data. Related to his age grater possibility is to have colon cancer but all depends in the examinations results.
I hope my answer help you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Monika Dede
