What Causes Diarrhea And Dark Bowel Movements?

I take opiods for chronic pain. for 30 years. 4 years ago I had prolapse surgery. The dr. said she did a lot of work in my rectum, since then, I have diarrhea. average every 3 days I take 3 Tbls. Pepto to get a solid stool But, the stools are smooth with flecks of dark stool. I also get horrific pain from time to time, in my rectum. It feels like a ragged piece of wood trying to come out. But nothing does. I have told my primary doc about this and she said she doesn t know. No referral. I m not sure what the problem is or what kind of specialist I need to seek, if any. Is this my new normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I will suggest that you should see an anorectal surgeon as this specialist will be better qualified to diagnose the problem. He may do rectal study called rectum manometry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi , General & Family Physician
