What Causes Diarrhea And Dry Mouth After Taking Nitrofurantoin?
i have taken 2 nitrofurantoin mono/mac pills for a UT infection. I think I am having a reaction to this medication. I feel warm in my chest and upper arms, beginning diarrea , dry mouth, tightness in hands and strange feeling. should I be really alarmed?
Diarrhea is a common side effect of taking nitrofurantoin. Should stop taking it and report this side effect to your caring doctor.
Diarrhea has caused loss of fluids and electrolytes (dehydration). This deficiency is causing dry mouth, tightness in hands and strange feeling.
Just take:
- Plenty of fluids especially plain water and oral rehydration salts.
- Follow BRAT diet (banana, rice, applesauce, toast.)
- Take Tasectan or Pepto-Bismol to stop diarrhea.
- Take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
